Prof. Dr. Bayram BAYRAKDAR

I was born in Kayseri in 1952. I graduated from Sümer Secondary School in 1966/67 and Kayseri High School in 1969/70. I studied at the Department of Early Modern History at the Faculty of Language and History-Geography during 1970/74. I took the courses of History Methodology, Renaissance and Reform in Europe, 30 Years Wars and philosophical history of the Age of Enlightenment from Prof. Dr. Bekir Sıtkı Baykal, Ottoman Historical Sources, Fuat Köprülü and Ottoman History, Analysis of Tacüt Tevarih, Turkish Culture and Civilization from Prof. Dr. Adnan Erzi. From Prof. Dr. Halil İnalcık, I took the courses on the Issue of the Foundation of the Ottoman State, studies and documents on the Fatih Period, and the Albanian Sanjak Record Book dated 835. I took courses on the Ottoman Army Organization in the Foundation Period from Assoc. Prof. Muzaffer Arıkan and on Beylik Period of Turkey from Assoc. Prof. Yaşar Yücel. Each of these academic members were highly distinguished individuals with international reputations in their respective fields.

I worked as a history teacher in high schools between 1975-82. And I worked as a lecturer at Buca Faculty of Education in 1982.

I completed my master’s thesis titled Denizli and the Region Kuva-yi Milliye in 1985/86 at Ankara University Principals of Atatürk and Revolution History Institute under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. İsmail Aka. It was an original study based on the ATASE Archive. In 1987/91, I completed my PhD thesis titled Ayvalık History from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic, which is a local and national history study, at Dokuz Eylül University Principals of Atatürk and Revolution History Institute under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Salih Özbaran. I worked as Assistant Professor in 1992/95, Associate Professor in 1995, and Professor in the Department of History at Erciyes University in 2001/2010. I conducted archival and historical research in archives and libraries in England, Estonia and Germany. I worked as an academic member at AYU in Kazakhstan in 2003/2005 and as Acting Rector at Ahmet Yesevi University in 2007/2008. During 2010/2019, I served as the Head of the Department of History and founding dean at DEU, Faculty of Letters. During this period, I served as a member of the Faculty and University Academic and Administrative Board. On August 3, 2019, I retired because of the retirement age.
